Sales of Nintendo DS plummeted

Nintendo DS

Nintendo DS sales figures have just come in and they show that sales have declined over the past month. In the month of October, sales of the Nintendo DS fell 14% from the month of September. For the month of October, Nintendo DS only sold 491,000 units, compared to 536,000 in the month of September. Although the next-generation Nintendo DSi has been released in Japan only, there is still no excuse for why sales of the Nintendo DS fell. Part of the blame can be placed on the declining world economy, but I can’t find any other reasons for the decline.

I agree with the points made, but struggled implementing the changes, great raticle tho, will this affect the Wii Fit and Wii Music.

Perhaps the decline in Nintendo DS sales is related to people in Australia, Europe and the Americas anticipating the release of the Nintendo DSi. (viz., unwilling to buy hardware soon to be superseded) ???

I can think of a reason… As hundreds of thousands are bought every month, eventually enough people will already have one that it won’t make sense for sales numbers to keep rising. It makes sense that sales figures would decline over time, especially in October as people are saving up for the holiday shopping season, and especially several years after the Nintendo DS was first released.

The fact that it still sells about half a million units per month is amazing. And the November/December sales numbers should be huge.

(Also, the DSi will not feature GBA compatibility, so get your DS or DS Lite while you can!)
